Envinate (which translates to "wine yourself") is really unique project of four passionate winemakers who met while studying winemaking in Alicante in 2005.
With a shared philosophy and passion for exploring old abandoned vineyards in Western Spain and the Canary Islands, they have taken over multiple sites in different parts of the country - always working by hand and using concrete and old oak barrels for fermentation with wild yeast and just a tiny amount of sulphur at bottling. Benje describes an area above the clouds at over 1000m above sea level on the western side of the Tiede volcano on the island of Tenerife. Here the old vines of the variety Listan Prieto are harvested by hand and spend 10 days on skins before pressing to concrete for 8 months. This is a super interesting and rare variety to see in Australia, from the Canary Islands no less. A superb wine that shows lush dark berries and cherry, light spice and savoury characters with subtle dried flowers. Awesome Canary Islands Juice!
